Duquesne University
The Rangos School of Health Sciences at Duquesne University was founded in 1990. The school’s objective is to provide
qualified healthcare professionals for the southwestern Pennsylvania region and the country. The program offers degrees in physical therapy, speech language pathology, perfusion technology,
occupational therapy, physician’s assistance, health management and sports medicine. The school has become one of the most successful new programs in the country.
John G. Rangos Sr. was the commencement speaker for the graduation of the class of 2000. He challenged graduates to combine compassion and expertise to bring efficiency and order to the
current health care market especially as it relates to rising costs. Mr. Rangos’ concern for health care in the region and throughout the country is one of the strongest guiding forces for
the works of the Foundation.
Rangos donates a legacy to his mother
John G. Rangos Sr. donated a gift to Duquesne University of an Endowed Chair in Health Science and Ethics. The donation was given as a legacy to honor his mother, Anna Rangos Rizakus.
In 2004, the university installed Dr. Paula Turocy as the first endowed chair holder of the Anna Rangos Rizakus chair. Dr. Turocy holds a doctorate in education with an emphasis in medical
curriculum. She is an associate professor and one of the three founding faculty of the athletic training education program. She also serves as chair of the Department of Athletic Training.
Her areas of specialty include: athletic training, nutrition, exercise physiology, health promotion, conditions of the spine and survey research. Dr. Turocy’s areas of research include
athletic training education, human performance, core stability and youth sport injury.
