St. Vladimir
A boost for Orthodox academia
Mr. Rangos is a benefactor of the new library at St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary in
Crestwood, NY. Named in honor of the Pittsburgh philanthropist, the John G. Rangos Foundation building currently holds 125,000 volumes and over 350 periodicals,
and provides space for the collection to grow to 230,000 books. The Librarian of Congress has called the facility "the richest library of Eastern Christian holdings
in the Western hemisphere." In addition to housing the new library, the Rangos building also provides space for the school’s administrative offices and the Metropolitan
PHILIP auditorium. The 300-seat auditorium is used for special campus lectures and concerts. As often happens with philanthropic efforts, the new building created a
domino effect of benefits for the seminary. The previous administration building has been converted into an active student union. And the former library building now
holds the SVS Press editorial, production and shipping offices. SVS Press is the largest and most active publisher of English language materials in the Orthodox Church.
Graduate students at St. Vladimir professional school come from around the globe and represent a variety of Orthodox churches. The seminary offers a doctoral degree
program in Ministry and masters degree programs in Divinity, Theology and the Arts.
