Rangos Family Donates Land for Recreational Rail-to-Trail in Westmoreland County
GREENSBURG, Pa. – In a ceremony held this morning at the Westmoreland County Courthouse, Greensburg, Pa., John G. Rangos, Sr.,
on behalf of his family, presented the Regional Trail Corporation with the deed to land that will be used to develop a recreational
walking and biking trail. The land is a former railroad right-of-way that runs from the Salem Township area through Loyalhanna Township
to just north of Slickville, Pa. The property is comprised of several contiguous parcels that in total measure about 100 ft. wide by
6 miles. The acreage for the property is approximately 71 acres, and is appraised at approximately $2.25 million.
According to John G. Rangos, Sr., "By working with the Regional Trail Corporation, and turning this parcel of land into trails that
everyone can use, we’re not only preserving a small piece of the environment, but also providing a nice facility that people can enjoy."
Rangos also noted that it will be very easy for the trail to be constructed and developed, since much of the infrastructure work has
already been done. The property already has appropriate drainage, piping and catch basins.
Mr. Rangos directs the John G. Rangos Sr. Family Charitable Foundation, which is dedicated to providing children with a springboard to
knowledge through education and good health, so that they may build a blue print for life. The Foundation supports numerous health care and
educational efforts. The most significant of these include The Carnegie Science Center, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, Duquesne University
and International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC).
