John G. Rangos Sr.

A decorated veteran of the Korean War, John G. Rangos, Sr. began his civilian career creating innovative technological advances in waste transportation and disposal. He founded and presided over several waste management companies, standing firm on integrity, creativity and partnerships. Currently, Mr. Rangos heads the John G. Rangos Sr. Family Charitable Foundation where he continually finds ways to create a better world for everyone. He is the founder and former president of the Medal of Honor Foundation. He has funded many educational and healthcare initiatives aimed at strengthening the minds and bodies of today’s youth. Some of his philanthropic work includes the Omnimax Theatre at the Carnegie Science Center, the Rangos Research Center at Children’s Hospital, the Rangos-Trucco Diabetes Research Lab at Children’s Hospital, the Rangos School of Health and Sciences at Duquesne University, the collaborative Masters of Science programs in Greece offered by Carnegie Mellon University and Athens Information Technology, and the John G. Rangos Sr. Building of Science and Technology at Johns Hopkins.

Jill Rangos

Jill Rangos currently serves as judge in the juvenile section of the family division of the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County, Pittsburgh, PA. A member of the Bar since 1984, she is married to John G. Rangos Jr. and has three children, Virginia, John III and Nicholas. Judge Rangos has long been dedicated to alleviating difficult circumstances for children, both as a judge and as a volunteer in our community. Among her many activities, she currently sits on the board of directors for the Pittsburgh Children’s Museum and is co-president of the Women’s Bar Association. Previously, she was a board of trustees member for Pressley Ridge Schools for six years and served as a member of the board of fellows for the National Center for Juvenile Justice for nine years.

John G. Rangos Jr.

John G. Rangos, Jr. has worked both along side his father and independently on his own ventures. He is an entrepreneur, philanthropist and enjoys involvement in his community. He has served as Senior Vice President of Chambers Development Company, Inc., one of the largest providers of integrated solid waste services in the United States. A former board member of the YMCA, today he sits on the Akustica techonology board and is an active partner and board member of Car Spa, Inc. He lives with his wife and children in a suburb of Pittsburgh.

Jenica Rangos

Jenica Rangos recently graduated from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) with a Bachelor of Humanities and Arts (BHI) and a Masters of Human Computer Interaction (HCI). Her expertise lies in technology, creativity and human interaction. As a graduate student at CMU, she was involved in a nine-month team project with the NASA Ames Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) group. The students developed and tested a next-generation prototype of the Science Activity Planner (SAP) application used on the MER missions. Impressed with her performance, NASA hired her, granting distinction among a top group of students. She began her career as a research associate at NASA in Palo Alto, CA, where she specialized in mission application design and ethnographic observation methods. She now lives in San Francisco, CA and works as an information architect at Avenue A I Razorfish, the country’s largest interactive agency.

Alexander Rangos

Now living in Dallas, Alexander Rangos is Chairman & CEO of Car Spa, Inc., an innovative high-end car maintenance and detailing company that is rapidly expanding. He has served as the President of Chambers Development Company, Inc. and as the Vice Chairman of the board of USA Waste Services. He was granted a National Citizens Award by the Congressional Medal of Honor Society and currently sits as a member of the foundation board. Alexander also serves on the board of Akustica, a 2001 start-up microchip technology company created in the commercialization of innovative technology developed at Carnegie Mellon University. In addition, he has made other investments in technology.
